Application Support Engineer based in Canberra

Cleared is supporting a Federal Government Department and is looking for a skilled and experienced Application Support Engineer based in Canberra. This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of 2 x 12-month extensions.

As an Application Support Engineer, you will join the Digital Citizen Services Section within the Business Solutions Branch of the department's Information Management and Technology Division. This role is essential for providing technical support and delivery of applications used by APO.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1st and 2nd level IT support, including systems administration and monitoring.

  • Investigate and resolve technical issues, escalating problems, as necessary.

  • Serve as a technical resource for projects and BAU activities.

  • Install and deploy software updates, patches, and fixes.

  • Create and maintain system and operational documentation.

  • Adhere to established safety, security, and quality standards.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong technical skills in application troubleshooting, diagnosing, testing, and resolving customer issues.

  • Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell) and task automation.

  • Intermediate Transact SQL (T-SQL) skills and SQL database products experience.

  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Strong customer service focus and ability to work autonomously and in a team.

  • Familiarity with ITIL Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management processes.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Windows Server and Linux administration skills.

  • Experience with release automation using Azure DevOps or similar tools.

Additional Details:

  • Start Date: Late August 2024 (pending security clearance recognition).

  • Contract Duration: Initial 12-month term with potential for 2 x 12-month extensions.

  • Location: On-site in Canberra with possible flexible working arrangements (3 days in office + 2 days from home).

  • Security Clearance: Must have or be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) clearance.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.

  • Availability to commence services.

  • Competitive hourly rate pricing.

  • Minimum NV1 security clearance.
