Job Description
We are seeking a Cyber Advisor to work directly with government, Defence, and enterprise organisations across Australia to help build high-performing cyber teams. This is a practitioner-led advisory role based in Canberra, working closely with some of the country's most critical cyber environments.


This opportunity is suited to a senior cyber security professional who has operated hands-on within cyber teams and transitioned into developing others. You will engage as a peer with cyber leaders, using your operational experience to design and deliver practical workforce capability uplift programmes aligned to real-world challenges.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct workforce capability assessments across government, Defence, and enterprise cyber teams
  • Identify skills gaps, maturity challenges, and development priorities
  • Design structured capability pathways tailored to organisational needs, workforce goals, and risk profiles
  • Facilitate workshops and planning sessions to convert operational challenges into actionable development plans
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of structured cyber training and development programmes
  • Coordinate with internal resources, subject matter experts, and customer stakeholders
  • Design and deliver cyber tabletop exercises and translate outcomes into capability uplift initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cyber leaders, L&D stakeholders, and programme owners
  • Track customer progress against development plans and identify opportunities for ongoing engagement
  • Represent the organisation at industry and community events across Canberra
  • Contribute to strengthening Australia's sovereign cyber capability

Education/Certifications required

  • Relevant certifications such as GIAC, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent are highly regarded

Knowledge/Skills required

  • 8-12+ years of hands-on experience in cyber security operations, engineering, incident response, or related disciplines
  • Experience leading or building cyber teams
  • Proven experience working within or alongside Australian Government, Defence, or large enterprise cyber environments
  • Strong track record in mentoring, capability uplift, or workforce development initiatives
  • Experience facilitating workshops, assessments, or engagements with senior stakeholders
  • Knowledge of cyber workforce frameworks and maturity models such as NIST, Essential Eight, and MITRE ATT&CK
  • Familiarity with structured training programmes and industry certifications is highly regarded
  • Experience delivering capability uplift programmes, academies, or similar initiatives is desirable
  • Exposure to workforce development programmes within government or critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience with tabletop exercises, red teaming, blue teaming, or cyber simulations is advantageous
