Job Description

This role sits firmly at the experienced engineer level.

You'll take ownership of network infrastructure performance, reliability, and improvement. It's hands-on but also expects you to think ahead - identifying risks, designing improvements, and influencing how environments evolve over time.

You won't just fix issues. You'll help prevent them.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues
  • Design and implement network changes and maintenance routines
  • Monitor and optimise network performance, availability, and security
  • Deliver installation, upgrades, and lifecycle management of infrastructure components
  • Automate routine networking tasks using scripting and standard tools
  • Provide input into preventative strategies and continuous improvement
  • Support and maintain operational procedures and standards

Education / Certifications required

  • Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related discipline
  • Or equivalent hands-on experience (3+ years in network/infrastructure roles)

Knowledge / Skills required

Core capability (SFIA Level 4 equivalent):

  • Strong experience across infrastructure operations and maintenance
  • Ability to implement and manage network changes and improvements
  • Experience monitoring performance, load, and availability
  • Troubleshooting complex network issues with a structured approach
  • Installation, removal, and lifecycle management of systems and components

Technical capability:

  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals (protocols, architectures, devices, topologies)
  • Experience across data, voice, and network technologies
  • Exposure to scripting/automation for operational efficiency

Working style:

  • Proactive in identifying issues and improvements
  • Comfortable working in security-driven, process-heavy environments
  • Able to balance hands-on work with broader system thinking

Employment benefits

  • Start date: 1 September 2026
  • Initial contract: 12 months
  • Extensions: 2 × 12-month extension options
  • Full-time engagement (up to 40 hours per week)
