Job Description
ONI is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support the design, development, deployment, configuration, operation and sustainment of secure commercial cloud platforms and services. You will contribute to the delivery of resilient, scalable and secure cloud solutions aligned with Australian Government policies, frameworks and standards.
This role requires strong technical capability, sound judgement and the ability to work with limited supervision. You will apply established cloud and DevOps practices to solve routine and moderately complex technical problems while contributing to continuous improvement of ONI's cloud capability.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build, configure, maintain and support cloud platforms and services using established cloud and DevOps practices
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure‑as‑Code, automation scripts and CI/CD pipelines for repeatable deployments
  • Apply secure‑by‑design principles and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security requirements and government standards
  • Monitor system performance, availability and security, proactively identifying and resolving operational issues
  • Assist with deployment and support of cloud‑based applications and services
  • Provide technical advice, maintain documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
  • Support team outcomes, collaborate effectively and assist in training junior staff
Education/Certifications required
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Relevant cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) desirable
Knowledge/Skills required
  • Experience designing, deploying, configuring and optimising cloud environments
  • Hands‑on experience with IaC and automation tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu or Ansible
  • Experience with container technologies
  • Scripting experience with Python and Shell
  • Experience with Git‑based source control and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of ICT operations including backups, storage, data protection and cloud security best practice
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to team capability uplift
