Business Development Manager - Communications Solutions

As the BDM you will lead sales activity across a portfolio of advanced Defence and security solutions supporting government, military, and national security.

The Role

The role will be developing opportunities & supporting a wide range of Communications solutions for Defence Primes, major projects, Government Departments (CASG) & end users dealing with Procurement and Engineering staff within those organizations.

Working within a small Defence team supported by the National Sales Manager and Business Development Manager, the role is multifaceted with time spent directly in both a sales capacity, conducting user trials and with a high potential for FSR/training work if successful on the major projects currently being bid into. Also providing technical input into Defence marketing activities such as attending tradeshows, website updates, LinkedIn posts and newsletters etc.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to work independently and be across new challenges in the field
  • High levels of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.


Preferred technical background but open includes;

  • Defence experience Ex-Army Telecommunications Technician or Communications Systems Operator ideal.
  • C4i Development cell or similar, commercial role with Prime, consulting company or competition SME highly regarded
  • Understanding of Radio Frequency systems i.e. Satellite Communications and Radio Communications.
  • Basic networking fundamentals preferred.
  • Understanding of the Defence Communications capability an advantage.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot Communications systems.
  • Ability to work on RF and TCP/IP capabilities alone or in a small team, able to travel to sites/bases/field exercises to demonstrate and trial capability.
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.

This position suits a commercially minded professional who is comfortable operating at the intersection of technology, operations, and stakeholder engagement. Veterans even without specific sales experience will still be considered.
