Job Description

ASD is seeking multiple Lead ICT Security Specialists (EL1 equivalent) to support various technical divisions within the organisation. Successful candidates will play a key role in safeguarding national systems and infrastructure by developing, implementing, and maintaining ICT security policies, risk assessments, and architecture.

This is an onsite role available across Canberra (primary), Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth facilities, subject to operational needs. All roles require a Positive Vetting (PV) security clearance and completion of ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA).


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level advice on ICT security policies, risk management, and compliance.

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of ICT security strategies.

  • Conduct business impact analysis, technical risk assessments, and security accreditation of complex information systems.

  • Monitor and assess security operations, incidents, and vulnerabilities, ensuring accurate documentation and resolution.

  • Contribute to policy creation and update standards, SOPs, and documentation.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support enterprise-wide security initiatives.

  • Investigate security breaches and coordinate actions to strengthen systems and processes.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of threats, technologies, and compliance frameworks including ISM, PSPF, and the Essential Eight.


Education / Certifications Required

  • Desirable: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field.

  • Mandatory: Certification as an IRAP Assessor (Infosec Registered Assessors Program).


Knowledge / Skills Required

  • At least 3 years' experience in ICT security across domains such as security architecture, operations, and risk management.

  • Proficient in applying SFIA Level 5 skills:

    • SCAD 5 - Security operations

    • SCTY 5 - Information security

    • INAS 5 - Information assurance

  • Strong understanding of cyber risk frameworks: ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to operate autonomously and make sound, strategic decisions under pressure.

  • Strong problem-solving and incident management experience (PBMG 4 - desirable).
