Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Oracle Database Administrator to support the setup and management of Oracle database infrastructure services for a Federal Government client. This position plays a critical role in both the service transition and steady-state phases, ensuring robust database performance, availability, and security compliance.


Duties and Responsibilities

Service Establishment & Transition:

  • Gather and analyse information on existing Oracle database environments.

  • Participate in transition workshops with stakeholders and technical teams.

  • Assist in preparing technical documentation such as SOPs and system overviews.

  • Support operational readiness for go-live in alignment with project timelines.

Ongoing Operations:

  • Perform routine Oracle DBA activities including monitoring, backups, tuning, and patching.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents with minimal disruption.

  • Manage ticket backlogs and ensure timely resolution of service requests.

  • Maintain detailed documentation and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

  • Support Agile and DevOps principles through process automation.

  • Provide input on cloud migration planning (AWS RDS, Oracle Cloud).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (compute, storage, cloud, network).

  • Lead and mentor junior DBA team members.


Education/Certifications Required

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline.

  • ITIL v4 Foundation Certification (or willingness to obtain within 8 weeks of starting).


Knowledge/Skills Required

  • 5-6 years of Oracle DBA experience across on-prem and public cloud platforms.

  • Expertise in high availability and disaster recovery (Data Guard, RAC, GoldenGate).

  • Strong database performance tuning and security knowledge.

  • Familiarity with ITSM and service delivery frameworks.

  • Experience with scripting and automation tools (PowerShell, Python, Bash) is desirable.

  • MSSQL experience is beneficial but not mandatory.

  • Excellent communication skills, stakeholder engagement, and documentation ability.

  • Must be an Australian Citizen with active NV1 clearance.
