Job Description

ASD requires an experienced APS 6 equivalent Security Engineer to develop and enhance ICT security systems. The role spans the full software lifecycle-system definition, requirements, design, development, integration, verification, and validation-while supporting ongoing security monitoring and deployment in alignment with the ASD Security Plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and operate ICT security systems including firewalls, intrusion detection, SIEM, encryption, and identity/access control.
• Review and improve system security controls.
• Monitor and analyse security logs and events.
• Implement security automation.
• Guide technical staff on security controls.
• Analyse ICT system security documentation and configurations.
• Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team and support technical leadership.

Education/Certifications Required

• Bachelor's degree or qualification in ICT or relevant field (desirable).

Knowledge/Skills Required

Essential:

• Strong knowledge of information security principles and technologies.
• Experience developing and administering ICT security systems.
• Proficiency with Linux, Python, and PowerShell.
• Administration of Windows/Linux OS and core ICT network services.
• Ability to develop use cases and technical documentation.

Desirable:

• Experience managing security data pipelines.
• Minimum 5 years ICT experience, including 3 years as a Security Engineer.
• Defence or Intelligence environment experience highly regarded.
