Cleared are supporting a leading launch service company in Australia who are looking to engage Avionics Engineers with NV1 clearance or above. This is opportunity is based in Queensland.

Purpose
Support the Avionics Lead and contribute to the Avionics Engineering efforts within the Software, Electrical, GNC, and Avionics department. As a senior engineer, you will collaborate with fellow engineers and the broader organisation, contributing to product development and R&D activities for orbital-class satellites and launch vehicles. You will be part of a high-performing team throughout the entire engineering lifecycle, from initial scoping and requirements definition to design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, assembly, and operations. You will also produce documentation and communicate across teams to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on time, following the company's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities outlined below are examples of the tasks performed in this position and are not exhaustive:


  • Collaborating with a team of Avionics Engineers to deliver Avionics products and services.

  • Assisting the Lead Avionics Engineer with the technical execution of work packages.

  • Participating in the development of Avionics engineering designs, processes, and activities.

  • Taking accountability as a Responsible Engineer for Avionics units/subsystems.

  • Acting as Technical Authority on behalf of the Chief Engineer, as needed.

  • Leading technical assessments, including concept studies, trade studies, analysis of COTS solutions, and R&D estimates.

  • Leading small product teams on a quarterly basis.

  • Adhering to and leading product development engineering processes, including requirements definition, preliminary/detailed design, review, procurement/manufacture, assembly, integration, verification/validation, and operations.

  • Supporting Avionics unit and integration testing and operations, which may include travel to remote sites.

  • Overseeing and signing off on engineering designs, processes, and activities.

  • Leading investigations, troubleshooting, modifications, and repairs.

  • Leading the execution of Avionics Research and Development activities.

  • Supporting architecture development, technology strategy, and execution within the Avionics team.

  • Supporting Avionics engineering production activities associated with the Launch Vehicle product lines.

  • Coordinating with the Mechanical, Propulsion, and Manufacturing engineering departments as well as the Production organization.

  • Engaging with the Satellite, Launch Site, and Defence programs, as well as external suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

  • Providing in-depth knowledge of Avionics regulations, industry standards, processes, and cutting-edge research.

  • Ensuring engineering activities are conducted and documented according to the company's policies, plans, and procedures.

  • Performing other duties as requested by Management.


Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Computer Systems, or Mechatronics Engineering

  • Over 5 years of experience in professional Avionics design engineering (excluding internships)

  • More than 3 years of experience in end-to-end Avionics product development

  • Eligible for NV1 Security Clearance

  • Proven ability to remain resilient in high-stress situations


Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Experience in PCB development for analog, digital, and mixed signal circuits

  • Proficiency in hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of electronics

  • Expertise in bare metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux software development

  • Experience with FPGA/SoC hardware and software development

  • Familiarity with mechanical design software (NX, SolidWorks, Onshape)

  • Experience in designing highly reliable products

  • Proficiency in the integration and verification of Avionics Units

  • Experience in electronics analysis and testing (circuit simulation, power budgets, thermal analyses)

  • Experience in developing RF solutions (spectrum coordination, antenna design, RF modeling, link budgets, S-parameter/EMI testing)

  • Engineering experience within the space, aerospace, or automotive industries

  • Experience in Systems Engineering practices

  • Familiarity with space engineering standards (GSFC-STD-7000A, SMC-S-016, RCC 319, DO-254, DO-178)

  • Experience with both waterfall and agile project management frameworks

  • Ability to thrive in a high-paced, challenging work environment

  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment, with a willingness to assist other team members in the day-to-day running of the department
