Senior Network Engineer - LH-05165

We're seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to support a Darwin-based organisation delivering critical network services across the Northern Territory. This is an onsite role working with secure, large-scale infrastructure in a Defence environment.

You'll be responsible for designing, implementing and managing resilient, secure network infrastructure that supports both local and wide area networks. The work is hands-on, technical, and closely aligned with Australian Signals Directorate security guidance.

This role supports work aligned with the Australian Signals Directorate, a statutory agency within the Defence portfolio focused on protecting Australia through cyber security, intelligence and cyber operations.

Contract details

• Start date: 23 February 2026
• Contract length: 12 months
• Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
• Location: Darwin, NT
• Work type: Onsite
• Security clearance: Must hold or be able to obtain Baseline clearance
  • Clearance upgrades will not be sponsored

What you'll be doing

• Design, implement and maintain enterprise network infrastructure
• Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls and wireless systems
• Deliver network security remediation and uplift aligned with ASD requirements
• Implement segmentation, segregation and other security controls across networks
• Monitor network performance and proactively resolve issues
• Produce clear technical documentation, including architecture and as-built documentation
• Work closely with stakeholders and system owners across multidisciplinary teams
• Operate in line with organisational safety, environmental and quality policies

Essential experience

• Strong hands-on experience with WAN and LAN technologies
  (MPLS, VPLS, SD-WAN, VRFs, VLANs, VPNs)
• Solid understanding of core networking protocols
  (BGP, OSPF, ARP, DNS, DHCP)
• Experience implementing and managing network security solutions
  (firewalls, IDS/IPS, segmentation techniques)
• Network monitoring, reporting and performance optimisation experience
• Cisco environment experience, including:
  • Cisco firewalls, routers and switches (FTD)
  • Cisco management platforms (ISE, DNAC)
• Industry certifications or equivalent experience
  (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE)
• High attention to detail, strong stakeholder communication skills, and clear technical writing ability

Desirable experience

• Conducting network architecture and security reviews
• Exposure to operational technology environments
  (SCADA, DCS, PLC)
• Performing network security risk assessments and vulnerability analysis
