ICT Specialist Security Assessors
Position Type: Full-time, Contract
Location: Canberra, ACT
Contract Duration: 12 months (with the possibility of 2 extensions)
Estimated Start Date: 4th August 2025
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Security Clearance Required: TSPV
Working Arrangement: Onsite, with flexible start/finish times to accommodate personal commitments
Cleared is partnering with The Department of Defence, who are seeking an ICT Specialist Security Assessors to join the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) in Canberra. As a key member of a Cyber Security assessment team, you will be responsible for reviewing systems architecture and security documentation to assess the effectiveness of security controls and support the Authorisation To Operate (ATO) process for various customer systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform complex technical assessments in information and cyber security to ensure systems meet security requirements.
Provide detailed, evidence-based technical, operational, and procedural advice on cyber security activities, including system administration, incident response, cyber forensics, vulnerability analysis, and more.
Ensure security controls are applied in accordance with ASD's mission and business objectives, as well as relevant frameworks such as Essential Eight, ISM, and PSPF.
Liaise with stakeholders across Defence and Government agencies to ensure consistent application of security assessment frameworks.
Contribute to the enhancement of ICT security policies and documentation, while implementing best practices, technologies, and governance.
Prepare security assessment reports, develop presentations, and provide advice to senior decision-makers to support authorisation processes.
Occasional travel may be required, including interstate travel for specific role-related purposes.
Essential Criteria:
Cyber Security Expertise: Ability to provide advice on security strategies, manage risks, and conduct security assessments and investigations. Contribute to the development of security policies and guidelines.
Information Assurance: Experience applying information assurance and security policies, and ensuring adherence to frameworks and standards.
Risk Management: Proficiency in planning and implementing risk management activities, engaging experts when needed, and advising on risk management approaches.
Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage medium-scale projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality, cost, and time expectations.
Desirable Criteria:
Specialist Knowledge: Ability to advise on standards, tools, and methodologies, and make informed decisions in risk assessment and operational improvement.
Leadership & Influence: Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor colleagues and influence stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
IRAP certification.
A minimum of 2 years' experience as a security specialist in security architecture, risk management, or security operations.
Proven track record in ensuring systems comply with Essential Eight, ISM, and PSPF frameworks.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Experience in developing, managing, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for security accreditation.

ASD is dedicated to providing expertise in national security and supporting Defence and other Government agencies in their missions.
Security Clearance:
Candidates must have, or be eligible to obtain, a TSPV clearance. ASD will consider sponsoring security clearance upgrades for suitable candidates, although candidates will be financially responsible for any TSPV upgrade.
