The Australian Signals Directorate is a statutory agency in the Defence portfolio that defends Australia against global threats and advances national interests through the provision of foreign signals intelligence, cyber security and offensive cyber operations as directed by the Australian Government.
Job Description
Cyber Advisors provide ICT security advice and assistance to government, including policy creation, project support and research.
ASD requires multiple EL1 equivalent Lead Cyber Advisors.
Successful candidates will be allocated to business areas based on operational needs following completion of the OSA.
Duties and Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
- Certify and validate systems by collecting and analysing cyber security data to support accreditations.
- Produce high‑quality cyber security reporting, including incident analysis, detection and response statistics, and formal documentation.
- Communicate complex cyber security information clearly, including representing the organisation in domestic and international forums.
- Research and analyse security activities or data to improve security posture and inform policy and practice development.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships to support the implementation of cyber security systems, policies and standards.
- Mentor team members, align skills and manage resources to achieve outcomes.
- Assess and maintain security practices and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and policy.
- Review business practices to identify key success factors and drive continuous improvement.
- Use advanced research techniques to identify vulnerabilities and anticipate potential threats.
Education/Certifications required
- Certification as an IRAP Assessor is desirable.
Knowledge/Skills required
- Proven ability to plan, manage and deliver vulnerability and risk assessments across information and cyber security environments.
- Experience researching cyber security tools and techniques and converting complex technical data into clear business‑level reporting.
- Strong background in investigating, analysing and assessing security incidents or threats, including developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrated capability in developing and maintaining cyber security and information security practices, procedures, standards and guidelines.
