Software Developers - APS5 Equivalent (Multiple Positions)
Client: Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)
Start Date: Thursday, 25 September 2025
Initial Contract Duration: 15 months
Extension Term: 12 months (up to 2 extensions)
Experience Level: Associate - APS4, APS5 Equivalent
Location of Work: ACT, QLD, VIC, WA (on-site only)
Security Clearance: Must currently hold NV1, NV2, or PV (Negative Vetting Level 1 minimum). Please specify level and include AGSVA CSID in your response.
About the Organisation
The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is a statutory agency in the Defence portfolio that defends Australia against global threats and advances national interests through foreign signals intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations.
Overview
ASD is seeking multiple Software Developers at the APS5 equivalent level to join various teams across the organisation. A merit pool will be established for future roles. Successful candidates will be required to undertake ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) either prior to commencement or within 12 months. More info: ASD Candidate Info
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, integrate, deliver, and document software capabilities aligned with business needs.
Escalate issues appropriately and seek guidance from team leaders/project managers.
Document technical processes and promote team knowledge-sharing.
Assist with automation and the integration of COTS and GOTS software.
Monitor infrastructure and support systems, troubleshooting as required.
Implement and maintain automated testing; provide feedback on design and implementation.
Contribute to continuous improvement by enhancing procedures and documentation.
Technical Skills
Experience with: Python, Java, JMS, JavaScript/TypeScript, J2EE, RESTful APIs, Django, Ruby, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
Familiarity with automation tools: Puppet, Ansible, Docker.
Essential Criteria (SFIA Level 2-3)
1. Programming / Software Development - PROG 3
Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, and refactors moderately complex scripts and programs. Applies standards and tools, monitors progress, and proposes solutions.
2. Application Support - ASUP 3
Follows defined procedures to resolve application issues, uses management tools to collect stats, and performs maintenance tasks.
3. Release and Deployment - RELM 3
Uses approved tools and techniques for deployment, records and documents activities.
4. Testing - TEST 2
Creates and executes test scripts and data, automates tests, reports on test results and risks.
5. System Software - SYSP 3
Monitors operational systems for efficiency, applies tuning parameters, installs and tests software versions, and contributes to implementation planning.
Additional Requirements

Working Arrangements
Onsite only - no remote work unless approved by the work area.
Most roles are in Canberra, though locations in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth may be accommodated.
Hours
Up to 40 hours per week.
