Client: Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)
Start Date: Thursday, 25 September 2025
Initial Contract Duration: 15 months
Extension Term: 12 months (up to 2 extensions)
Experience Level: APS6 Equivalent
Location of Work: ACT, QLD, VIC, WA (on-site only)
Security Clearance: Must currently hold NV1, NV2, or PV (Negative Vetting Level 1 minimum). Please specify clearance level and include AGSVA CSID in your submission.

About the Organisation

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is a statutory agency in the Defence portfolio. ASD defends Australia against global threats and advances national interests through foreign signals intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations.

Overview

ASD is seeking multiple APS6 equivalent Software Developers to support various teams across the organisation. A merit pool will be created for future vacancies. Successful candidates will be required to undertake ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) either prior to commencement or within 12 months, depending on the work area.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Design, build, integrate, deliver, and document software solutions that meet business needs.
• 
  Escalate issues appropriately and seek guidance from team leaders or project managers.
• 
  Engage with stakeholders to refine and develop user requirements through Agile methodologies.
• 
  Document technical processes in line with organisational policies and support team knowledge sharing.
• 
  Enhance existing automation capabilities and design new solutions that meet evolving business needs.
• 
  Integrate COTS and GOTS software.
• 
  Translate logical designs into physical implementations using Agile Software Development Methods (ASDM).
• 
  Monitor systems and provide support and troubleshooting assistance.
• 
  Implement and maintain automated testing environments.
• 
  Participate in continuous improvement by developing and enhancing procedures and documentation.

Technical Skills Required

• 
  Demonstrated experience in development languages/frameworks including:
  • 
    Python, Java, JMS, JavaScript/TypeScript, J2EE, RESTful APIs, Django, Ruby
  • 
    Kubernetes, OpenShift
• 
  Experience with automation tools:
  • 
    Puppet, Ansible, Docker
• 
  Experience with front-end frameworks:
  • 
    React

Working Arrangements

• 
  Onsite only - remote work is not guaranteed and is subject to operational need.
• 
  Most roles are based in Canberra, with possible accommodation for candidates in Melbourne, Brisbane, or Perth.

  Please indicate your current AGSVA security clearance level (NV1, NV2, or PV).
• 
  Include your AGSVA CSID.

Hours

Up to 40 hours per week.
