ASD is a statutory agency within the Defence portfolio, defending Australia against global threats and advancing national interests through foreign signals intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations.

Job Description
ASD is seeking an experienced System Administrator to manage and develop Cross Domain Solution (CDS) systems in support of critical national security operations. The role involves maintaining Linux infrastructure, implementing automation, monitoring systems, and ensuring availability, reliability, and security across CDS environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions enabling secure interoperability between systems of different security classifications

  • Research and integrate advanced security appliances, automated security mechanisms, and protocols

  • Implement access controls, data segregation, and boundary protections aligned with cybersecurity best practices

  • Perform integration testing of CDS systems to validate security features, interoperability, and functionality

  • Use automation tools (Puppet, Ansible) to prepare and replicate system builds

  • Generate reports and dashboards to demonstrate system availability across multi-geographical locations

  • Conduct continuous monitoring using application management software and implement corrective solutions via Python/YAML scripting

  • Validate and improve system maintenance procedures

  • Monitor system performance post-implementation using Splunk and Grafana

  • Engage cross-functional teams to commission and manage CDS systems

  • Provide technical guidance to team members and stakeholders

Education/Certifications Required

  • Demonstrated experience in CDS system administration and architecture

  • Strong Linux administration skills across physical and cloud-managed infrastructure

  • Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet) and scripting languages (Python, YAML)

  • Relevant industry certifications (SFIA SYSP4, DESN4, AVMT4, ASUP3, ITOP3) highly regarded

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Strong understanding of system networking, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation

  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into actionable solutions

  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills to manage system availability, reliability, and performance

  • Experience generating dashboards, reports, and monitoring for vulnerabilities

  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement
