Job Description
We are seeking a Linux Administrator with strong Linux and VMware skills to join a high-performing operations team supporting Defence tactical network systems. The role is based in Canberra and focuses on supporting, maintaining, and improving secure compute, operating system, virtualisation, network, and management application stacks within production environments.
This is an office-based position, with occasional collaboration with engineering teams to design and document new functionality.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 
  Manage, monitor, and maintain secure tactical network platforms
• 
  Proactively identify and resolve system and network issues
• 
  Restore system components to working order and ensure platform availability
• 
  Manage system changes, upgrades, and updates in line with security standards
• 
  Maintain technical documentation and baseline configurations
• 
  Identify and implement opportunities for platform improvements
• 
  Collaborate with engineering teams to design, integrate, and document new functionality

Technical Environment

• 
  Linux administration (RHEL or similar)
• 
  VMware virtualisation technologies
• 
  Network monitoring tools
• 
  Cisco networking
• 
  Storage and backup systems

Education/Certifications Required

• 
  Relevant tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline (preferred)
• 
  Vendor or industry certifications in Linux, VMware, or related technologies (desirable)

Knowledge/Skills Required

• 
  Experience supporting complex production environments
• 
  Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills
• 
  Experience managing VMware virtualisation and associated technologies
• 
  Ability to manage changes and updates in secure IT environments
• 
  Familiarity with storage, backup, and networking concepts
• 
  Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills

Security Clearance
You must be an Australian Citizen holding a minimum NV1 security clearance at the time of application. This role will require you to obtain and maintain NV2 clearance.
