Job Description
ASD requires an experienced Security Architect to support systems integration capability delivery. The role involves complex problem solving, issues management and the coordination of detailed or sensitive projects impacting strategic, political and operational outcomes. The position requires strong stakeholder engagement, translation of business requirements into technical specifications and the development of secure technology solutions. The Security Architect will work with Government security frameworks including the Essential Eight, Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and NIST standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inform and validate security requirements for new and existing capabilities, ensuring traceability through design, implementation and configuration.
- Assess solution components against architectures, strategies, policies, standards and security requirements, proposing risk reduction options.
- Provide advice and risk-based guidance to support solution implementation, including management of security elements in change requests.
- Obtain, analyse and act on threat intelligence.
- Develop and review artefacts such as security risk assessments and business impact analyses.
- Support approval processes across architectural, security and stakeholder bodies, ensuring appropriate technical and security input.
- Contribute to agency security outcomes.
- Discuss security implications with internal and external stakeholders to develop pragmatic, risk-minimising solutions.
- Develop security documentation including:
- System Overview Document (SOD)
- Statement of Applicability (SOA)
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Security Risk Management Plan (SRMP)
- System Security Plan (SSP)
- Incident Response Plan (IRP)
- Lead and manage the security accreditation process for integration projects.
- Validate project artefacts to ensure security requirements are addressed.
- Perform certification or validation activities by analysing information and cyber security data.
Education/Certifications required
- Degree in computer science or a related field (desirable).
- Certified IRAP Assessor (desirable).
Knowledge/Skills required
- Demonstrated capability to deliver the duties and technical requirements listed in the RFQ.
- Experience providing security strategy advice, risk assessments, business impact analysis and accreditation activities for complex systems.
- Experience in information assurance, including technical assessments and accreditation of high‑risk systems.
- Ability to specify and design large or complex systems in line with enterprise and solution architecture standards.
- Experience evaluating design options, managing associated risks and balancing functional, service quality and security requirements.
- Experience developing and applying security architecture best practice to enterprise and bespoke ICT systems.
