About the Role:
The Department of Defence is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support multiple DEF100 Capability Elements. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact Defence projects, designing and implementing secure, integrated systems in line with Australian Government Architecture standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with both technical and non-technical team members, providing expertise across system design, deployment, and ongoing support. Where DEF100 positions are filled, suitable candidates may be considered for other AGO projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop detailed system designs that meet project specifications and align with architectural guidance, balancing functional and non-functional requirements.

• Provide expert technical advice, evaluating alternative design options and trade-offs.

• Install, configure, and deploy systems and components, ensuring proper integration and functionality.

• Diagnose and resolve technical issues, maintaining system stability and minimizing disruptions.

• Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.

• Prepare security documentation to support formal compliance assessments and approvals.

• Contribute to continuous improvement processes, collaborating effectively with project teams, business partners, and stakeholders.

• Operate with discretion and professionalism in a high-security environment.

Essential Requirements:

• Proven experience in systems engineering with senior-level expertise (EL1 equivalent).

• Ability to work onsite in Canberra with minimal travel.

• Positive Vetting security clearance (must be maintained for the duration of the contract).

• Demonstrated capability in all of the following areas:

  1. Designing integrated systems aligned with project specifications and architectural guidance.

  2. Providing technical advice, evaluating alternatives, and managing trade-offs.

  3. Installing, configuring, and deploying system components effectively.

  4. Diagnosing and resolving technical problems promptly.

  5. Creating and maintaining comprehensive system documentation.

  6. Producing security documentation for compliance and approval processes.

  7. Collaborating flexibly with project teams and stakeholders to support continuous improvement.
