The organisation is a world leader in safety‑critical communication and information systems used in Air Traffic Management (ATM), defence, public safety, and national infrastructure. Their technology supports more than 120 countries, with strong operational presence across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.
With a major engineering hub in Brisbane, the team delivers advanced Digital Aerodrome Tower systems and supports complex ATM and control‑centre solutions for airports and government agencies.
Position Overview
This role plays a critical part in supporting, maintaining, and enhancing integrated Digital Tower systems deployed across multiple Australian airports.
As a Systems Integration Engineer you will combine:
- Systems engineering
- Software engineering
- Hands‑on field support
- System integration & commissioning
- Customer-facing technical troubleshooting
You will be the primary technical interface during the entire system lifecycle, ensuring that performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction meet safety‑critical expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Incident Response
- Act as the primary escalation point for technical service issues.
- Respond to enquiries, error reports, and incident tickets within SLA timeframes.
- Perform root-cause analysis, fault isolation, and resolution.
- Support customers with configuration and operational guidance.
Systems Integration & Engineering
- Plan and execute system changes, upgrades, and enhancements.
- Integrate system components into existing customer environments.
- Conduct system audits and review logs for compliance and optimisation.
- Collaborate with international product teams on design improvements and technical escalations.
Field Deployment & Testing
- Perform system testing in lab and live environments.
- Conduct Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
- Install and configure system hardware, networking equipment, and software releases.
- Provide hands-on remote or on-site troubleshooting.
Documentation & Coordination
- Maintain detailed technical documentation, interface guides, and configuration records.
- Coordinate with global engineering, product, and development teams.
- Communicate effectively with customers throughout issue lifecycles.
Travel
- Domestic travel to customer sites across Australia.
- Occasional international travel for training and engineering workshops.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- Minimum 5 years in systems engineering or hardware/software support.
- Experience in mission-critical or safety-critical environments (ATM, defence, rail, command/control).
- Hands-on experience with:
- Linux (RedHat/Ubuntu) troubleshooting
- VMware/ESXi virtualisation
- PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle
- Networking (Cisco/Juniper/Fortinet/Palo Alto)
- VoIP/SIP/RTP
- Docker / containers
- Bash scripting, Kickstart, Rsyslog
- Zabbix/WuG network monitoring
- Wireshark for network and protocol analysis
- Experience using Jira/ServiceNow for incident management.
Domain Experience (Highly Advantageous)
- Air Traffic Management or airport systems
- ASDEFCON or government frameworks
- Radar, surveillance, sensor-based command/control systems
Soft Skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- High attention to detail
- Strong organisation and time management
- Collaborative, supportive team contributor
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT, Telecommunications, Software, or related discipline.
Additional Requirements
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain NV1 Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizens only).
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Ability to respond to urgent customer issues outside standard business hours (8am-6pm).
